I just got back from a trip to Tokyo Japan and I can safely say it was the best travel experience of my life. 1 week home an im already planing to go back in 6 years, and stay for a year lol. Anyways what type of jobs are open to white men age 24 in Japan? All I hear is english teacher or English translators... because im not sure if thats for me... So is that true or are there any other occupations that I could apply for and actually have an OK chance of getting in?
My brother lived in Japan for 20 years as the editor of an English language newspaper. If you are fluent in both languages you could also get a job at any company that does international business. Good luck!
My feeling after living in Japan is that if you want to have a career and be settled in Japan, you must speak and read Japanese. If you just want to live in the country for a few years, I'd go the English teacher route. It's what I did. If you work for a bigger school, it pays well enough for you to live and travel. And you don't really need to be a teacher, they'll train you on their method and what not.
If you just want to live in Japan for a few years and don't like the idea of teaching, you do have a few options. It all depends on your visa. My company sponsored me, to my great benefit. I'm from the States, and we don't have a working-holiday visa (WHV) scheme. If you're from one that does, you can apply for the visa and work virtually anywhere. If you're able to obtain some basic Japanese in the next few years, you could apply for work in any field that interest you.
A friend of mine from my Japanese school was in Japan on WHV to increase his language proficiency. Where did he work? McDonalds. And his Japanese was great.
Either way, studying Japanese will be a help. And it has the added benefit of affording you cultural access once you arrive.
So, ganbatte. And welcome to a2k.
Also, the women there are awesome!

SO, There was this talk I heard before, about becoming a naturalized citizen in japan. Im not sure if getting married is the ONLY way, because I sure dont want to get married(kekkon ga jinsei no hakaba dakara) becouse Im gay guy however, I was living in japan going to the college preporatory school for entering a japanese university &, I was just wondering is if you graduate from a japanese university if it can be easier to become a naturalized japanese citizen after living in 5 consecutive years in japan. I also was working in the izakaya Watami restourant as a waiter, I am here in US now on a break however, but.. Im just curious about My FUTURE & what I could not know!
I want to be the rare gaijin man who become`s a naturalized citizen & says japanese on passport & works in the family mart as a cashier !IRASHAIMASEeeee! hehehehe
