Meaning, six more weeks of winter.

Six weeks is a long, dark time.

It's almost like spring here and has been for a few weeks, interjected with a cold day here and there. It's been rather mild this winter. 6 more weeks of this isn't making me that sad.

Only six weeks! That's not bad!!!

<whithers under industrial-strength glares>

What?

(Seriously, I'm still Minnesotan enough that only having to wait until mid-March sounds lovely...)

Aw, too bad. That was the prediction by Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Bill.

Canada is getting an early spring, according to Ontario's Wiarton Willie and Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam

My daffodils are already 6" tall. Just a little more of this mild winter, and they'll have blooms.

Wow!

I have all kinds of stuff poking out of the ground, but I'm trying to talk it back in -- still pretty darn early for that. (My powers of persuasion don't seem to be quite up to the task...)

I get worried when bulbs start coming up this time of year. It happens frequently, because we usually get a warm spell in January. But we're still due a few more freezes. As long as the flower heads don't show up, the bulbs will be fine for an April bloom on schedule. But this is starting to make me nervous. I put in 150 tulip bulbs under pansies last fall, and I'm watching and waiting.

I can see just the little green tips of my snowdrops and some of the pussy willow catkins have appeared.

Soz--

Don't worry about your bulbs being over optimistic. Each bulb is a little chemical factory generating enough heat to melt the ground (and any snow on the ground) around it.

Awww, I love him. He's cute.
But then, I live on the other side of the world (Australia)
so if he sees his shadow or not, doesn't affect me. Laughing
Sorry. Laughing

Thanks. Very Happy
If I lie in the sun, I'll burn to a crisp. Embarrassed
Blame my English ancestors for that. Laughing
It's just nice where I am (Melbourne)
Hope it's not too hot where you are. Very Happy

6 more weeks of winter? Big friggin surprise! We're lucky round here to have winter end by the end of March on a good year, groundhog or no groundhog.

But, like Noddy, my environs are looking springish - I'm worried about some of the little green babies poking above ground prematurely.

Littlek--

The early bulbs are little chemical factories, generating their own heat, dispelling the frost.

I always remember my parents on Groundhog Day. It was their anniversary. (They just had to be different. Wink )
