Back in the 1930's my newlywed parents started the Blue Ribbon Game. Every January they decided which family member had been most outrageously inconvenient during the previous year.
That "winner" was awarded the Best in Show Blue Ribbon.
We've all survived the holidays and a certain amount of Family Togetherness and the painful memories should be fresh enough in our minds that submitting the Best In Show Outrageous Famiy Member should be easy.
My entry:
One of the more colorful fringes of Mr. Noddy's family is a young woman with four children and a live in stud who has a great deal of trouble budgeting money.
Last year she managed to finance Back to School Clothes by abstracting $1200 from her Mother's Savings Account.
When the Bank Statement arrived, she disavowed all responsiblity for the missing money. She said, "If the bank hadn't let me have it, I wouldn't have taken it. Besides my kids needed clothes."
I'm looking forward to your entries.
I think my "when family members do dumb things" thread was my nomination...
We just refer to the winner as the adopted orphan.
I've won many times, the year I quit college and joined the USAF, the first time I got married, the second time I got married, the third time I got married. All the divorces were better behavior. My sister competes well, she won the year she was revealed as a lesbian, the year she took off and spent on her own in Europe and the, never to be forgotten, year she was in town at Christmas and didn't even bother to make a phone call. The nerve.
Oh, I won when I didn't show up to --never mind, I'm really ashamed of that and I did make up for it later, but still.
The good thing is none of the orphans are ever cast out forever.
Joe(It's a close call though some years.)Nation
