Maple, I grew up in Ireland so I'm talking about my fridge and grocery shopping there.

I do think we ate healthier (and heartier) when we had less conveniences.

Just thinking about this now has me considering throwing out the frozen stuff in my icebox. I think I'll do a fresh-food shop on my way home from work tonight. I'm in the mood for a meal made from scratch, not from a box.

We never had leftovers. My mother calculated what was needed each day, bought that much, and we always finished everything.

My mother hated cooking (although what she did cook was delicious, she was really very good) so we had a cook/laundress/occasional babysitter, and I bet if there were any leftovers she got to take them home. I'm just guessing, though,
