Really I've thought it was just me who was always annoyed by the seam across my toes. I always wondered why you sock maker guys couldn't move the seam to a place where I might not notice it so much.
And I always wondered why my other garments didn't have little knobs where the seams were but I was ashamed to speak up. I thought I had weird feet. I thought the seam only annoyed me.
But tonight I had the courage to speak up.
I mentioned my seam concerns to my husband and he enthusiasticially agreed that the toe seam was a serious problem!
He talked about sock adjustments and those days that your socks just can't be comfortable no matter what.
He talked about how you try to move the little seam knob down into a toe crack or something so that it doesn't dig into your toe and make you miserable all day.
It was like he read my mind. Or my toe. Or my toe mind.
Whatever.
He was eloquent and brilliant and I remembered why I fell in love with him 20 something years ago.
So thank you sock maker for that.
But now that we've passed that moment I really hope that you will figure out a way to eliminate the toe seam and make a sock that I don't even have to think about, ever.
Yours truly,
boomerang
But but how would you ever get the sock on right side up?
I can tell by the heel portion of the sock.
Easy-peasy.
Or maybe they could skip the seam and print "TOP" where the seam could be!
Maybe I need to make TOPSOCKS!
I think it has a special meaning in the antipodes.
My socks have no toe seam. Neener neener.
With my old gym socks, I can not only tell right-side up,
I can tell right from left.
On mine, the top is the side without holes. The left sock? George?
I met a man with no shoes and felt sorry, until I saw that his socks had seams at the toes.
DrewDad, those aren't socks. They're panty hose.
Really now, what kind of sock doesn't have a seam? Even my fancy socks have seams.
I'm with roger in wanting to know more about this whole "left sock" thing.
Knitting is the answer.
Knitting your own socks is the only solution.
Start knitting.
Start knitting now.
I spent $6 a pair for socks without seams at the toe. Unfortunately they bunch up at the instep during a day.
I have e-mailed both the sock maker and the sock seller....
The left (or right) sock thing:
My big toes are each considerably longer than their footmates.
Thus, sooner or later the big toe wears a hole through the sock.
But I can prolong the life of the sock by assuring that I wear it
on the foot other than the one whose big toe poked through.
socks OMG socks!
the lady diane sick of me complaining about my socks ordered 4 pair from NEW ZEALAND at a cost of like $1,000 per pair or something like that, no seams but I can't afford to wear them.
Dear Sock Maker Guy
And what about the labels in the waistband of underwear, and the backs of shirt necks? Stiff and scratchy as heck. Although I did read somewhere that so many people have been complaining about the labels that some manufacturers have gone back to softer ones; it seems it's a question of the bottom line - harsher is cheaper, and if the customer doesn't like it that's tough.
Yuck...labels! Some manufacturers (esp. T-shirts) have started printing the label on the inside of the shirt at the back of the neck where the label would be. Big improvement!
Yes, I've noticed that; it's a great idea.
Socks for special feet
Yes, please. I'd definitely pay extra for no scratchy tags and seamless socks.
In the movie,
Finding Forrester, Sean Connery's character, Forrester, always wore his socks inside out because of the seams.
Quote:Jamal: "Why are your socks inside out?"
Forrester: "Socks are badly designed. The seams are on the inside. They hurt the toes."
