Getting odors out of your shoes

How can you get smells out of your shoes?

I have a pair of shoes I wear to my jobs.
I take them off when I get into someones home and work in my socks.
That way I dont track mud and other things from house to house.

the down side of that is what is on peoples floors..... Confused

This ends up in my socks, and then in my shoes.
My work shoes smell and I have only had them for a month.

I have heard before, that if you leave them in the sun.. it kills odor causing bacteria..
hmm.. me thinks that is an old wives tale.. ? Or is it?

I have machine washed them..
they still stink.

Aside from buying a new pair of work shoes every month.. what helps?
Baking soda?
Baby powder?

Not sure how to get the smell out.. you could try charcoal. But, why not have a pair of some type of slippers (slipper socks things) that you could put on while in peoples homes and take them off before putting your shoes back on. That should eliminate future problems.

How's about taking a pair of slippers to "work" in.Then you can always wipe the soles with a baby-wipe befor changing back into your outdoor shoes

I don't know if they sell this product in the US, but there must be something similar:

Dr. Scholl's for sweaty, smelly feet and/or shoes
also HERE

Failing that, Lysol spray usually works not bad.

Trep's got a good idea for future smelly shoes with the slipper suggestion.

Extra pair of socks? Change socks before you leave work?

Leave the Odor Eater powder in in a thick layer overnight... Or accept and embrace it?

Laughing

I like the idea of a pair of simple slippers. .. or those non skid socks.
I can pack a baggie to put them in and change into them before and after work so I stop getting floor muck in my shoes.

Oxyclean... ?
I have a oxyclean spray product...
Made by Fantistick.. same thing?

Comes in a powder too, as a laundry additive. You can add it in different strengths.

I have not found that anything works one hundred percent--but filling stinky shoes with baking soda, and letting them sit in a dry place for several weeks does reduce it marvelously.

....and when you rinse them out, don't throw the water away as it makes a wonderful fizzy drink.

You are a mysteriously perverse and disgusting man, Lordoftheludicrousriff, which perhaps explains why you fit in so well here.
