kk, I have a cold, and been feeling sickie since the day after Thanksgiving.

I have an aunt who is a genius at making potions for whatever ails you. I told her that she had to write them down because that is what I wanted when she passed on. The thing about her potions is that she puts in rum or brandy or whatever liquor the potion she feels calls for.

I'm feeling much better now, and I'm also feeling a little tipsy. You see, I usually take double the amount she tells me to take. It's just that it's sooo good, I can't help it.

In the next post I want to sing for you. Please feel free to add anything as the spirit moves you. Very Happy

http://www.films-sans-frontieres.fr/bettyboop/images/Betty_dvd3.gifkk, now I'm going to sing for you "My Favorite Things"

*Walks closer to the audience swaying her hips* And begins...

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

[Repeat all verses]

I remember well the days when I would use the spirits to tend to my colds.

My favorites had to be of course brandy...blackberry of course, for the nasal woes, and then of course the hot buttered rum for the throat. Should have known better... there was no reason to place any butter in the rum, the rum alone did the trick...knocked me out for the night Very Happy

These days I have had to move on to other things, now I just indulge in a pound or two of chocolate when feeling a cold approaching (the sugar hit makes me forget the drippy nostrils).

My cousin insists on vapor rubs...UGH!

kk, vapor rubs are fine but, how does chocolate help a cold? Or is it that you like to spoil yourself?

Chew a decent sized clove of garlic.

But living properly is the main thing.

Chocolate works in a mysterious way. Of course it makes me feel better but it also seems to help in draining the nasal passages so they aren't clogged and I can sleep better.

Then there was the grapefruit juice phase...a half gallon of the stuff every day for 3 days. Sort of flush the virus from the system.

Mercifully I got past the grapefruit juice silliness and back to the chocolate...dark chocolate seems to work best.

Also try to eat a raw onion...sounds harsh but it opens up the breathing passages.

Echinacea drops work for me. Some poo poo it, but I swear by the results.

I take my echinacea in teabag form. Plenty of hot water. Chamomille works, too. Like Sturgis, I don't use spirits any more. But back in the days when I did, the recipe would be about 1/2 rum or cognac to 1/2 the herbal tea. A healthy squeeze of lemon (none of this just a slice stuff) and -- voila! -- I'd be out cold for the night.

I'll have to make a comment against blackberry brandy.

My cousins and I finished a bottle in the wee hours once, and she, he, and I each were individually violently ill. I remember it well, and so do they.

The next song I'm going to sing is from my grandmothers xmas collection. It's not really a xmas song, but has many funny songs sang by the Simpsons. This song I dedicate to my beautiful little angel Stephanie, Matthew, and to all of you out there. It's from their recording "The Simpsons Sing the Blues"

Just give me a minute to get ready.

*clears throat* I will now sing for you, I Love to make you Smile.

*takes a few steps forward* and begins:

I was born to make you happy.
I think you're just my style.
Every where I go,
Telling everyone I know,
Baby, I love to see you smile.

Don't want to take a trip to china.
Don't want sail up the Nile.
Wouldn't wanna get too far,
From where you are,
'Cause I love to see you smile.

In the Summer,
In the Spring time,
Winter, or the Fall,
The only place
I wanna be
Is where I can see you smile at me.

Like a sink without a faucet.

Like watch without a dial.

What would I do if I didn't have you.
I love to see you smile.

In the Summer,
In the Spring time,
Winter, or the Fall,
The only place
I wanna be
Is where I can see you smile at me.

In a world that's full of trouble,
You make it all worth while.
What would I do, If I didn't have you.
Oh, I love to see you smile.
I love to see you smile.

After what you said about chocolate, Matthew bought me chocolate cake, chocolate Haagen Dazs, and anything chocolate he could find.

For breakfast I'm having Potato, Broccoli & Cheddar Pierogies with coffee, and chocolate ice cream. How you like that Exclamation Very Happy
