Breaking: Matt Christiansen just tore a $15 billion hole through Trump’s Iowa steel-plant victory lap.
KWQC lead investigator Matt Christiansen did what national political media somehow has not done: he went to Lee County and checked whether the White House announcement existed anywhere beyond the Oval Office.
First, Trump stood beside Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and declared the Mesabi Metallics project a “done deal.” Lutnick insisted, “They’ve already worked it out,” and Trump claimed they had “already started building.”
Then Christiansen opened the land records.
“No major property purchases” tied to the project this year.
Then he checked permits.
“No permits have been filed.”
Then he talked to county officials, who had no detailed plan from the company and no disclosed site for a facility supposedly set to produce 10 million tons of steel by 2030, create up to 6,000 construction jobs, and employ 1,700 people permanently.
The company’s history raises even more questions.
Essar’s Minnesota steel-mill promise collapsed in 2015 amid
• construction delays
• unpaid contractor bills
• 2016 Chapter 11 filing.
• Roughly $60 million owed to contractors.
Essar still owes Minnesota roughly $22 million from a $71 million infrastructure debt.
Yet none of this is in the New York Times, CNN, or Fox News.
Christensen did the work. The rest of the media needs to catch up.
Every voter in Iowa needs to see this... Before it's too late.
