He walked.
So long that he learned to take light apart into colors,
time into moments,
the sky into formulas.
Year after year he charted the map of existence.
Marked the stars. Measured distances. Connected the dots.
And one day said:
— That's it. There is nothing beyond. Only the map.
And hung it on the wall.
He was no fool.
He was obsessed with precision.
But one day he made an almost imperceptible mistake.
Mistook the road for the signpost.
The window — for the horizon.
The echo — for the voice.
A man polishes glass for so long that he forgets to look through it.
But one evening he returned to the map.
Covered in formulas. Etched with lines.
Like a vast herbarium of other people's discoveries.
He looked for a long time.
Then suddenly understood:
the map is beautiful.
Because it is not the world.
It is only the trace of a finger pointing at the world.
And then he stood up.
Not because he understood.
But because he understood: understanding is not the point.
He opened the door.
Beyond the door was night.
Real.
Without captions. Without legend. Without footnotes.
The grass breathed the warmth of the day.
The wind turned the leaves like pages in an old book.
And overhead hung the sky.
Not astronomical.
Not philosophical.
Not religious.
Sky.
He raised his eyes.
And for the first time in years found nothing to say.
Words became small.
Like candles before an ocean.
And then he understood:
the telescope did not diminish the mystery. It made it greater.
Every galaxy discovered — another door.
Every formula was not a lock but a key.
Every answer opened a question that had not existed before.
The night was silent.
The sky was silent.
And he was silent too.
Because some things cannot be explained.
They can only be encountered.
Perhaps faith begins not where questions end.
But where a man, having studied the map to its last line,
can still raise his eyes.
The map — on the wall.
The sky — breathing.
The question became light.
