2003-1215, Sex, Two Soldiers Marry Iraqi Women.
Two Florida, NG Soldiers with the 3rd Bn, 124 Infantry Regt, received letters of reprimand for marrying Iraqi women. SGT Sean Blackwell and CPL Brett Dagen wed the two female doctors in Baghdad during a break in a foot patrol.
The two were punished for disclosing the time and place of the patrol so the women and a judge could meet them. The Soldiers have not been allowed to see their new brides since the marriage.

2003-1231, Gay, there are three very common generalizations of women in the military:

2004-0113, War, Apache Hit by SAM.
The Apache was flying as a two-ship convoy over watch when the trail aircraft was hit in the right-hand engine by a surface to air missile. “We’re hit we’re going down!” were the last radio calls from the helicopter. They flew the aircraft another 200-yards and landed safely. The pilots from R Troop, 4th Squadron, 3d ACR, were unhurt and the Apache landed safely.
Six-months later, back at Fort Carson, Colorado, I was talking to one of the pilots in that shoot down, he said, “Nobody even said thanks’, for me landing the Apache after we were hit, no broken-wing-award, no-medals.” He looked sad. I felt sad for him.

2004-0223, Aviation, Comanche Canceled
Army the U.S. Army announced their decision to cancel the $39,000,000,000 (59,591,000,000-2022) Comanche helicopter program in view of the need to provide funds to renovate the existing helicopter fleet of aging attack, utility, and reconnaissance aircraft. In addition, a factor was the growing popularity in the Military of using UAVs for reconnaissance purposes – in addition to tests; UAVs had proven their worth in Afghanistan and Iraq. The block 3 upgrade for all 501 Apaches, this will make them as good as the Comanche. In addition, 358 Lakota helicopters. Killing the Comanche is the best thing that ever happened to Army Avn.

2004-0322, War, Soldier Commandeers Truck, Gets in Trouble.
SFC James Williams, 326th Eng Bn and his platoon were stranded on the streets of Mosul, Iraq. Their HMMWV was broken.
SFC Williams commandeered the first civilian truck to take his men to the Army camp 6-miles away. The Army is court-martialing Williams for using civilian equipment without authorization.
2006-0615, SFC Williams found innocent at courts martial.

2004-0329, Harassment, Female Army CPT Gets the Vapors.
CPT Tonya Estell, a chemical officer with the 4th Infantry Div, 4th Brigade, was in her barracks room in Iraq. It was late at night; she was with an unidentified male KBR civilian employee along with SPC Maryanne Ajoku.
The civilian man tried to kiss CPT Estell. She fought him off but was shaken, on the verge of tears, in shock, angry and nervous. She sat with her back to her Soldier's for three days after this incident, so they would not see her cry. "How dare he try to kiss a female officer in the US Army, it still makes me shudder,” she said.

2004-0415, Rape, Sex Crimes in Iraq Perpetrated by Peers Not Leaders.
A special Army task force looking into sex in combat, reports 91 sex assault cases between Jan 2003 and Mar 2004. Army Secretary Les Brownlee convened the task force in response to a Senate mandate and media reports that female Soldiers were being raped by the thousands.
The task force found that 60-percent of the assaults involved alcohol consumption in the combat zone by both the woman and accused. 90-percent of the crimes were committed by junior Soldiers on peers within their unit.

2004-0416, UCMJ, Rape, Anonymous Reporting Approved
DOD authorizes sexual harassment victims to confidentially disclose assaults to a sexual-assault response coordinator, victim advocate, health care providers or chaplains. The names of the accused will be turned over to the chain of command, but the victim will remain anonymous. This is a MAJOR departure from past Military policy. "DoD hopes the new policy will increase the probability that cases will be reported,” said David S.C. Cue, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. "First and foremost, we want victims to come forward," Chu said.

2004-0424, Drugs, In Iraq
Army tests 4,173 Soldiers in Iraq for drugs. 22 Soldiers test positive. 11 of the Soldiers tested positive for marijuana, 5 for cocaine, 3 for heroin and 3 for LSD.


2004-0524, Drugs, Urinalysis Testing Myths
Poppy seeds will not make you test positive: No over the counter medicine will make you test positive for Meth: There are substances when added to urine will mask drugs, but that is why Army tests are observed: First time drug users of marijuana are safe after about 5-days from testing positive, the longer you smoke it the longer it will stay in your system: Marijuana is safer than cigarettes: Nobody at the drug lab is out to get you: the Army does not test for steroids but will if the command thinks there is a problem: LSD is not detectable, it leaves the body after 12-24 hours: Drug labs do not round up the results, a positive test for marijuana is 15 nanograms, you are safe if you score 14.99999: Drugs cannot be added to your sample to make it test positive after the sample is in the bottle: A positive sample will not contaminate the machine for the next sample: Drug labs do not screw up: Passive inhaling marijuana will not give you a false positive, 15 nanograms is a large amount: Drugs given at the dentist will not make you positive: Modern marijuana is 30 percent THC, weed back in the 60s was 5 percent THC: Every sample is tested for popular drugs, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, meth and ecstasy: Vinegar will not mask a positive drug test.

AF 1LT Todd Doughty sentenced to 18-months for driving drunk at high speed and crashing his HMMWV killing the passenger, SPC David E Hall, an MP with the 806th MP Co, 16th MP Bde.

2004-0615, UCMJ, Money, Drill Sergeant accused of selling PT insurance
SFC Larry Jones, SFC Kenneth Robinson and SSG Kelvin Womack, with the 1st Bn, 40th FA, Ft Sill, OK sold "PT insurance" guaranteeing a passing score for $200 (298-2022). They also sold trainees bootleg copies of DVD movies for $12 (18-2022) and bottles of Gatorade for $10 (15-2022.)

2004-0615, Porn, Accidently Shown During Anti-Porn Class.
250-Sailors are gathered in the Pearl Harbor Naval Station's Sharkey Theater to attend the new one-hour per quarter "prevention of sexual harassment,” class.
The base EO advisor, an unnamed Navy second-class petty officer (E5) was setting up the Power Point slide show when he inadvertently displayed a graphic nude picture of a female on the theater screen. It was a full-Monty and a full-theater audience.
Capt Jeffery Cox, Commander of the base has scheduled more classes in response the incident to cover appropriate and inappropriate uses of government computers. This made the national news.

2004-0615, Assault, AF Recruiter Sued Under Indian Treaty Law
A US Army recruiter, SGT Joseph Kopf is being sued in Federal Court in South Dakota, Laveeta Elk, is suing the US Government under an 1868 treaty that says, "if bad men" among government officials commit "any wrong" upon the person or property of any Sioux, the US will reimburse the injured person.

2004-0615, Assault, Army Recruiter Sued for Racketeering
Prosecutors in Hamilton County, IN, has charged NG recruiter SGT Eric Vetesy with assaulting 7 recruits. Vetesy a married father of three was charged with racketeering under the section that bans corrupt business Influence and official misconduct. "He had a pattern of misusing his power," she said.
