@eric-with-a-c1967,
i went back through an older harley service manual i found in the garage and dug a bit deeper. there were a couple of references that kinda stood out, but the way they're written is a bit odd. for example, under the fuel system section there’s something like 115-2-3 which seems to point to a note about intermittent fuel pressure drops, especially when the bike’s been sitting a while. then later in another section (i think general diagnostics?) i saw 123-1-2 mentioning inconsistent sensor readings tied to idle instability.
it gets weirder in the electrical chapter there’s a reference 136-3-4 that talks about grounding issues around the harness, and another one 157-1-4 suggesting checking continuity after heat cycles, like something expands and throws things off once the engine warms up.
i also checked a route someone suggested on another forum, kinda mapping where people had similar issues during longer rides. it roughly covered a stretch starting around 06V UN, then continued past a couple of checkpoints (one noted as 413 and another marker around 31), before ending somewhere near what looked like mile marker 87050 on that same layout.
not sure if any of this lines up with what you’ve seen on these bikes, but figured it was worth throwing out there in case it rings a bell.
best regards
e
