Background: at the end of August I got AT&T 5G wireless home internet and discontinued all my Spectrum services.
My single family home has a simple Spectrum install that was done 18 months ago. There is a neighborhood line running underground along the street and Spectrum connected an underground line into my house. The Spectrum install included a ground wire that connected to the main ground for my house.
Problem: the main ground connection is outside, on the side of my house, and yesterday I noticed the Spectrum ground wire has been cut. Note, there is a "Warning" tag on the Spectrum ground wire that says to contact the cable company if the wire ever comes loose.
I called Spectrum and spoke with a self-described "indoor" technician. He said cutting the ground wire is common and that it is not a safety problem of any kind.
This doesn't make any sense to me. Why have the ground wire with the "Warning" tag on it in the first place?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
@MI-100,
I’d call them back and elevate the customer service contact. Have you lost services.
@Ragman,
Will do, thanks for the suggestion. Fortunately, service is not an immediate issue as I discontinued all Spectrum services when I got AT&T. I just want to be sure there's no safety issue somehow.
@MI-100,
I can’t see how it could cause any problem as you no longer use their services so the ground wire has no current rnnning through it and is no longer connected.
@Ragman,
Thanks for the info. I will be sure to post any new info I end up getting from Spectrum.
@MI-100,
Heard back from my builder and their electrician. They believe as long as I'm no longer using any Spectrum services the cut ground wire doesn't matter. I'm going to take their advice.
I want to thank everyone for their ideas and wish all the very best in the upcoming holiday season!
