Tablature or Music Notation

I think you'd need music notation for many passages in the classical repertoire. Ideally you'd be trained on both.

What do you mean trained for both? I have been playing classical guitar since 1974.

Well, which do you prefer? One of my guitar playing friends, semi-pro, never uses tablature and now that he is trying to learn classical guitar he's trying very hard to improve his ability to read notation. There's a written bass line which he has to play and all sorts of eighth and sixteenth note figures – how could you play the piece if you couldn't read notation?
