What made you think I actually believe him?

Both are correct in their own ways. The latter (since believe is past tense) just could indicate that the I in the sentence may or may not believe the him in the present.

'Believe' is present tense, 'believed' is past tense and the rest of the sentence is beyond.



A clown with his pants falling down
A remark that's just bristling with snark
