Hello! I would like to know if an article is needed before the word Gen Z.

So for the context, I was was watching my friend play a video game and one of his teammates was constantly blaming everyone despite playing so badly. Out of my friend's frustration, he typed this: "you're the reason we're losing. Stop putting the blame on your teammates and just play the game you failed comedian." To which the other guy responded "I'm not Gen Z and I have an actual career. I have no idea why you said I'm a failed comedian."

So the question is, is it I'm not Gen Z(...)or I'm not a Gen Z(...). I am asking because I'm kind of confused. I usually see other people using an articld before the word and that was actually my first time seeing it being used without one. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!

@Rox111,
It's not needed, either will do.

@izzythepush,
Thanks! Is there a difference in meaning between the two? Or do they mean the same?

@Rox111,
The meaning is slight, it's the difference between I'm American or I'm an American.

The first shows you are of a nationality, the second you are an individual of that nationality.

It's not big, you couldn't get a fag paper between the two, so the difference isn't worth bothering with.
