A massive radio galaxy approximately 3.5 billion light-years from Earth has been discovered by astronomers. It's called Alcyoneus, and it's the largest known structure of galactic origin, measuring 16.3 million light-years in length. Alcyoneus is a standard elliptical galaxy that is roughly 240 billion times more massive than the Sun. It is around 160 times wider than the Milky Way Galaxy and has a diameter of 16,300,000 light-years. This galactic monster is an especially large example of a radio galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy contains between 100 billion to 400 billion stars. The Alcyoneus galaxy has an estimated 100 trillion stars!
