Canasta question

Near the end of a game and there are no cards in the pile. When it is your turn, you want to add a card to your partners meld, your left in your hand with 7"s or card from a meld that has been closed, do you have to take back the card you just added to your partners because the other cards in your hand can't be discarded ? Please let me know. Thank you Bonnie
