What's "free speech"? And while I'm asking, what country is this?

The Neo-Nazi march through the middle of downtown Madison Wisconsin got me thinking afresh: what the actual frock is going on here? I mean, have y'all been noticing that the kinds of things we seem to just accept with a shrug has really expanded towards the horrific?

I heard someone say it's all protected speech, but where's the line right now? Would little burning crosses be okay in a march as well? How about marching while lynching a few miniature blacks or jews in effigy? I know that seems extreme to say, but masked men marching in formation with huge swastika flags just seems to bring out the reactionary in me.

In my mind, this nonchalant acceptance of Nazis melds right in with the current state-sponsored miseducation of our children. In Germany, education about Nazi brutality and murder is mandatory, including trips to holocaust museums and concentration camp sites. But here, knowledge of the American holocaust of hundreds of years of chattel slavery is in danger of being erased from history books or whitewashed until it all sounds like some kind of beneficent jobs program.

Look at these miscreants. Is this ok with you?

@Bogulum,
We're taught a lot about slavery here.

We're taught about William Wilberforce and about how the British Empire stamped out the slave trade.

We're not taught much about slavery in the years prior to Wilberforce, because that's really not important.

What's important is that we stopped it.

The truth is starting to seep out slowly, the descendents of some wealthy slave owners have started to make amends but it's a trickle.

On the road to Devon there's an estate owned by a Tory MP whose great whatever was some slave dealing ****. It's obscene, it takes a long time to drive past the ******.
