WHAT IS A MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE?

Broadly speaking, a mystical experience is anything that is hard to comprehend or describe with rational or simple language. Generally, it is short-lasting, feels immensely meaningful or profound and shatters some of your preconceptions. You may encounter paradoxical or alien concepts first-hand. There is a sense that nothing in the universe is truly separate and is actually temporary. A mystical experience is an intuitive understanding and realization of the meaning of existence. It is the doctrine that special psychological states or events allow knowledge of ultimate truths. There can be a sense of oneness and extreme clarity. Mystics believe that their experiences disclose the existence of an extrasensory dimension of reality: phenomenon that occur but cannot be detected through ordinary perception and which become apparent during mystical revelations. Finally it is the wisdom of knowing that there are realities beyond perceptual or intellectual contact that are directly accessible by subjective interaction.
