Water Softener Adding Salt / Settings??

Previously Settings were 775 gal. or 14 days which ever came first for a Re Gen.. It would take approximately 5 weeks to dissolve a bag of Salt.. Now the settings were changed to 1350 gal. or 7 days which ever comes first.. It's taking much longer to dissolve a bag of Salt.. I have been poking a long stemmed screwdriver through the Salt making sure it's loose. We noticed the Salt level and the Resin levels have gone down but still have not seen any water poke through the top.. We are 2 Adults living here.. My Query what should be a Good / Proper Setting ??
