THE ZERO ENERGY UNIVERSE

The zero energy universe hypothesis proposes that the total amount of energy in the universe is exactly zero: its amount of positive energy in the form of matter is perfectly cancelled out by its negative energy in the form of gravity. It may seem incredible, but many scientists believe that the total energy of the universe is zero. Hence, no energy needed to be "created" when the universe came into existence. The net average energy is zero for all the same cosmological models including those with negative and spatial curvature. If this theory is correct, then there was never any need to create energy or matter- they strike each other out. That implies that the Big Bang could have started as a simple statistical fluctuation. A gravitational field has negative energy. Matter has positive energy. The two values delete each other provided the universe is completely flat. In that case the universe has zero energy and can theoretically last forever.
