Unless you have clear and convincing proof that someone is lying, assume they are telling the truth. That makes stuff like this easier.

Maybe instead examine why you are pushing away someone who you say you like being in contact with. Are you afraid of it getting sexual or serious too quickly? Then tell him something like, "I think this is moving too fast."

Good people will respect that and slow down. Not so good people won't, or they will give you a hard time for it, or they will disappear.

And then you'll know.
