I saw a heartbreaking scene...

I was driving home from school with my best friend and her mother. A small fire caught Laron's (the friend) eye...it was a little ball of flames in someone's garage. Normally people don't burn things intentionally in their garage, and so we pulled over and started walking over to see if everything was okay. By the time we got out of the car, the fire had caught to the entire garage. By the time we got off the phone with the police, it had gone through the house and the roof and the truck out front (there was an extreme danger of explosion).

I've never seen anything like that before. I was on the verge of tears; the man who, I would assume, owns the house was outside panicing. What else is there to do?

My heart was breaking, to see someone lose everything they love. It all happened in no more than 30 seconds; It's insane. I've never seen anything so amazing and painful.

I had to get it off my mind.

Sorry to hear that Sanctuary, losing one's house must be very devastating, but I am glad there were no lives of people and
animals lost. Everything is replaceable, except loved ones.

Nevertheless, my heart goes out to this poor soul.

Well, the neighbors said that he did have a dog; we're not sure if it was in the house or not. I hope not.

I might be the big meanie here but it seems odd that everything caught that quickly without accelerant.

If it wasn't intentional, I wish this man only the best and hope that he can put his life back together.

I might want to alter my statement since I just read that a house can be engulfed in a matter of minutes. It was actually 5 minutes so it is possible that it spread quickly by itself....

think about it bella..
most people store old clothes, fluids ( oils, cleaners etc ) papers , PAPER BOXES and other stuff in their garage.
A good amount of heat and alot of those things explode on thier own with out having touched the flames.

Garages are pretty dangerous..

but. yeah... i wonder.. arson maybe?
that is pretty fast.
But then again 2 minutes in an emergency can feel like 30 seconds..

From the description this sounds like a natural gas explosion. Was the house connected to a gas line or use bottled gas?

The man had been working on his motorcycle, I'm pretty sure it was a gas fire. He had yelled something about a gas can exploding.

When we had a huge fire in 2003 in San Diego County,
around 2000 homes burned to the ground within a few
hours. Many homeowners could only save themselves
and their animals. It was very devastating to watch this
inferno.
Those poor people lost everything, but what they
mourned the most, were irreplaceable family photos
they could not retrieve/duplicate any longer.

After seeing that, I put almost all family pictures,
and important papers in a fireproof box.

Almost 20 years ago I saw a fire in Brooklyn that has haunted me since. My building was just across the street and my window faced the inferno. I will never forget seeing people running from the building with what they valued most - their children, their pets, pictures in frames, photo albums, a trophy, a small rocking chair, a handmade quilt. I can still see these items in my head. The only thing equally powerful was watching the suited up firemen marching into the burning building to look for people and to put the fire out.
