Another type of neutron star is called a magnetar. In a typical neutron star, the magnetic field is trillions of times that of the Earth's magnetic field; however in a magnetar the magnetic field is another 1,000 times stronger. A magnetar called SGR 1806-20 had a burst where in one-tenth of a second it released more energy than the Sun has emitted in the last 100,000 years.
