Who is your Queen of Christmas?

Mariah Carey has just lost a legal bid to trademark "Queen of Christmas" meaning only she could use the phrase.

How bloody arrogant, lots of people have had Christmas singles, not just her.

My choice would have to be Madame Cholet, star of 2 Christmas hit songs.

A Wombling Merry Christmas, and with Wizzard, I wish it could be a Wombling Merry Christmas every day.

I revel in the music in general, rather than celebrating the artists, though I do have some favorites.

@izzythepush,
The hubris required to put in for this trademark is beyond my ability to comprehend.

@engineer,
That's how I felt.

If I was compiling a playlist of Christmas songs her would be very far down the list.

Slade would be number 1.

Pia Zadora is in Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

Maybe it should be her.

That's a horrible, terrible film. I second your nomination.

It's quite obvious who should be Queen of Christmas.

As is the way most (recorded) Christmas songs are by men.

Off the top of my heard the first Christmas "pop" song I heard was It's going to be a cold cold Christmas by Dana.

It's not very good though, it's supposed to be sad, but the tune is too poppy.

Then there's Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt which I heard a lot earlier but didn't consider it pop because it wasn't on top of the pops.

I didn't like that at all. I was a little kid and hated all that soppy kissing and wotnot. Christmas songs should be about Father Christmas bringing toys and that's it.

No bloody religion either, that ruins Christmas, that can stay in church.

Getting back to Christmas Queen I'd have to opt for Kirsty McColl from Fairytale of New York with the Pogues.

@edgarblythe,
I will give that a listen.

I'm sure I must have heard her, looking at herplaylist, but I can't place her.

I have a soft spot for Shakin Stevens, for two reasons. He appeared on Top of the Pops to perform Merry Christmas Everyone and fell off the stage drunk.

Secondly he had the piss taken out of him relentlessly by Viz magazine, appearing in the footballing strip Billy the Fish as a centre forward.

He bore it well, having Viz characters all over the sleeve of his single "I might."

It was all good natured, never nasty. One the cut out square you had to send in for competitions it asked favourite and least favourite strips and favourite pop star which had already been filled in, Shakin' Stevens.
