It is often believed (Taught) that the British were somehow alien, foreigners, when in fact all colonials were British themselves. George Washington referred to himself as an English Gentleman as did most of the Founding Fathers. No one was down trodden or subjugated, the Fathers themselves were in the main wealthy farmers, merchants, lawyers etc. The rebellion was over tax, Britain had spent a great deal of money fighting the French, much of which was spent defending the Colonies, it was the reluctance of the wealthy to pay taxes unless the Colonies had fair representation in Parliament that led to the uprising where British fought British 85% of the Colonists were either born in Britain or of British stock, mainly English. My question is Why are not told the truth?

@James Darcey,
We're not told the truth about lots of things in school. You honestly think reading Tristram Shandy is useful for anyone other than the occasional teacher or Shandy-phile (If there is such a word. If not, then there is now)?

@James Darcey,
First of all, the colonists were being taxed by another country's parliament in which they had no representation, which is fundamentally unfair. England claimed the right to make any law whatever for the colonies. The British Declaratory Acts stated that parliament "had hath, and of right ought to have, full power and authority to make laws and statutes of sufficient force and validity to bind the colonies and people of America ... in all cases whatsoever".

Furthermore, in general, colonists were treated like second class citizens of the empire. George Washington experienced this many times when he ordered goods from merchants in England and found that he had been sent inferior products, as though a country bumpkin who would never know the difference.

The Americans didn't think theyhad to pay for anything, and particuly took issue with treating the indigenous population kindly.

They betrayed Britiain by joining the French Empire in an attempt to exterminate the British people and impose French law.

They supported the Nazis right up until the invasion of Pearl Harbor, and even today murdering Yankie soldiers murder our citizens for sport, Harry Dunn being the most recent example.

We won't be safe until this murdering nazi child killing filth is removed from our green and pleasant land.
