1. i have three sets:-
(1) set 1 contains 6 names (one can use english alphabet to name them)
(2) set 2 contains 2o entirely different names (one can use 15th mongolian alphabet to name them, or whatever)
(3) set 3 contains 50 entirely different names (one can use 19th century swahilian cuneiform to name them, or whatever)
– a total of 76 different names

2. i need to find out the total number of variables:-
(1) within each set (variables include, for example, in set 1, A alone; D alone; the pair of A and B; the pair of A and C; the pair of A and D; the group of A, B, D, F, etc)
(2) between every variable within set 1 and every variable within set 2
(3) between every variable within set 1 and every variable within set 3
(4) between every variable within set 2 and every variable within set 3
(5) between every variable within set 1, every variable within set 2 and every variable within set 3

@combo de joe,
Your question is pretty confusing. Are you trying to find all the possible combinations for each set, then each pair of sets, and finally all the names together? Just looking at the first set, the formula for the number of possible set of n names would be 6! / (6-n)! / n!. For two names, there are 6!/4!/2! or 15 combinations.
