Strangest Obsession

What was your strangest obesssion in your life?
Mine was my cat.
I worked in ALbq and a friend of mine lived in the mountains. One day on our way to her house , she saw the local 'wild' cat on the side of the road. She had been hit. Her kittens were under my friends porch and she wasnt sure what to do. So between her and I , we spent the next few weeks tending to the kittens. Hundreds of dollars and empty baby bottles later, I developed an attachment to my cat whos name is ' kitten'.
I took kitten home early ...she was abut 3 weeks old.
I got the idea in my head that I needed to replace her mother. I started studying feline behaviors, ACTUAL psychology ( yeah.. there is such a thing as feline psychology) and other things about cats. All in order to raise Kitten as a cat would be raised.
I would put a piece of tape rolled against itself on my chin and use that to ' lick her' clean. I would prop the bottle between me and the mattress so the nipple would stick out and she could knead my belly..
I would 'bathe her' with a wet wash cloth while holding the scruff of her neck. I would carry her by the scruff of her neck. I showed her how to 'pounce'...
basically for a few months I was a cat freak...

what have you done?

At one time I loved ants so much I tried to convince my mom that an ant followed me home from school. I asked her if I could keep it.

I'm medicated borderline obsessive compulsive, so I don't think you'd want to ask me.

One of my favorite lines from the book "naked" is...
"I didn't HAVE to touch my nose to the lawn gnome, I WANTED to"

So - how did kitten turn out?

I stroke the tip of my nose behind a cats ears. also I'll "make muffins" when a cat does it. My way of saying - Right back at'cha.

sometimes when you do a slow squint at a cat, they'll do it too. Their way of saying - Right back at'cha.

You ever make a high pitch sound to a cat - like "mmmmmm". It makes them freak out.

I really don't like spiders, but...whenever I see a spider-web in my yard, I like to pick up an ant or another bug and throw it on the web--just to see what the spider really looks like when he comes out of hiding to get it!

oh yeah. I whine like a dog at her and she runs. Laughing

Kitten is now 7 and is a dog. She plays fetch and spends her days in my lap. She licks my teeth after I eat ( kissing for cats) and always comes when she is called
She isnt a cat.

The slow squint is a way for a cat to say Hi, love ya, how ever you want to phrase it. Blantent stares , espically when you are calling them , is an open show of diminance and viewed as a threat. A slow squint gives the cat a way to loose eye contact without being offended and is seen as sort of a handshake
If you ever notice, cats always go to people who DONT like them.. why? because there is no eye contact, no staring and that is a ' no threat' person.

im full of cat useless knowledge.. Laughing

My cats don't squint at me. I think they give me the finger when I turn my back on them. I caught the fat one once when I quickly turned - he isn't so fast. Probably because of that bonsai kitten thing.

As you can see his "fingers" were not fused together. However, his left paw is fused to his cheek. He can still manipulate his little fingers and that is what I saw when I quickly turned around.

My friend and I used to have this weird obsession with horror stories and movies. I would say we were in our early teens - junior high age. It went so far that we wrote our own horror novel. We were truly sick. We described some one having a "fall" (she was secretly pushed) down a cliff. We described parts of the brain hanging from a cliff and seagulls pecking at the eyeball - sick stuff like that.

My obsessions seem to change all the time. Sometimes it is a person who I just have to see or else I start going nuts wondering if they are alive or dead or injured or have been kidnapped or have been stricken with amnesia. It is dreadful.
Other times it can be a song which I will play again and again and again and again and... this was the case recently with a few songs which I kept playing them so many times consecutively that I knew the words before they were sung...backwards!
I was obsessed with seeing the movie Marty (with Ernest Borgnine) as often as possible but after the first thousand viewings (actually 1,064) it left the theater.
I have been obsessed with other particulars such as whether a lightbulb would be burning out in a particular length of time or how long it takes water to boil or how long a bar of soap will last. The truth of the matter is I can obsess on anything and often do. Hard to say what the strangest one was I never really thought to rank them in any particular order so now you've given me a new obsession...ranking my obsessions and wondering as I do so whether they are in the proper order, should I have alphabetized or put them chronologically. Pardon me while I go obsess about this.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie, "As Good as it Gets" is when Jack Nicholson goes through his hand washing routine with the Neutragena. Its a great movie.

I don't obsess, but I do tend to worry. About being late for an appointment, Mr B or the girls arriving home late, things like that.
