Facebook privacy settings.

I set my privacy option to ‘no’ on Facebook so that outside search engines would not be able to list me. However I was still able to find my name on a search engine which said I had a Facebook account. Within Facebook I made sure that only friends and family were able to see my Facebook page. My question is what’s the point of having a privacy setting if it only protects some of your privacy?
