Help with this riddle?

“What turns sponsor into a stigma?”im trying to solve this puzzle. That’s the only clue. It’s part of a series of different clues and hunts and riddles. It might have to do with the world of NFTs but maybe it’s just a riddle on it’s own. Answers are usually 1-3 words but there’s nothing against it being more. I’ve tried many many obvious answers. I suspect there’s a reason the question isn’t “what turns a sponsor into a stigma” it omits the first A which is how I would say it in conversation. Thanks for looking.
