Roy the poor mailroom guy.

Twenty years, no raises in sight.

Not one mere promotion.

Could there be a more lonely plight?

Short of stature and meek,

He would never utter a peep.

Living in tiny quarters,

Benefits he would never reap.

Crushed in the gears of life,

He drifted along as flotsam.

To all that had seen him.

A fragile and innocent lamb.

Yet no one seemed to care.

Every night, Roy ate his food.

Every day he worked.

Silence was his usual mood.

He became less than a man,

More of a ghost among hte hallways.

Pushing his mailcart

Nobody noticed him always.

One day a letter came,

“Sorry, but there’s been a mistake,

A glitch in the system.

We’re giving you what you should make.”

But Roy couldn’t read it,

As it thanked for years of toil.

Tortured soul long since dead,

He leapt from roof to meet soil.

Explanation:

“Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelley was an anarchist method, of taking estate families, and splitting them between a choice for legacy, or family. If you could’ve been an estate family, reading it produces a new Ozymandias, this particular one to split teachers, between “Newman” from Seinfeld, and “Milton” from Office Space, played by Wayne Knight and Stephen Root, respectively. A teacher gave me Ozymandias, and I wrote this, having lost my chance at being a landed family.
