@izzythepush,
Well, obviously you can't feed a newborn baby food, but there are millions of babies around the world and throughout history who never got formula and they survived on cow's milk, goat's milk, and whatnot. So yes... Carnation evaporated milk was very common here - in fact, Newfie's still put it in their tea.

Anyway, it's nothing to argue about.

@Mame,
Are there anycomparative health studies on children raised on formula compared to those raised on cow's milk, goat's milk or whatnot?

You admit that in cases of newborn and other babies with medical conditions the lack of formula is a serious concern.

Imagine being the parent of a child like that, unable to locate formula to feed them, how would they feel reading this thread?

I don't doubt those with 18+month kids are rather relaxed about the shortage, but young, first time parents with very young babies must be having a terrible time right now.

My firstborn was said to be allergic to milk products. Fortunately we were able to get what he needed. In today's state of affairs I would ask the family pediatrician for advice.

@Mame,
There was a time before almost everything and yeah people survived ...but was it better? Healthier?

I know a woman who is pregnant and unable to nurse due to her medical condition... She is very concerned but hopeful this will be resolved by then.

Every mom wants what is best for their child especially a newborn and carnation milk although a baby may be sustained on it is not ideal..I know I nursed at first for my children but the doctor provided information on the type of formula that would be best for a baby to get the nutrition that most fits a mothers milk and it wasn't carnation.

@Linkat,
Of course nobody would recommend Carnation over formula! I'm just saying that until they get it sorted, it's not the end of the world to go with a replacement. Apparently they can order online from Amazon.ca - we don't seem to have a shortage.

How long are babies on formula these days, anyway? And when do they start feeding pablum and baby food? Things are different these days.
