I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me. I live in Trieste, Italy. I recently purchased an Esari Asmalyk (please see enclosed photos) from a well established rug shop here in Trieste. I have been a client of the owner for almost 20 years. Prior to purchasing the Asmalyk, he told me the following information -
The dyes are all natural. The Asmalyk/wool is soft and pleasant to touch I purchased the Asmalyk from a client that I have known for over 30 years. Hesold me 7 carpets in total. The reason he sold me the carpets was because he sold his house in Trieste. His wife died 4 years ago (they do not have any children) and after meeting a lady in Rome, he then decided to sell his house and move to Rome. He sold the house in Trieste because he didn't need it and above all it was full of memories of his past and above all his wife. The gentleman is over 70 years old and he told me that ever since he was a child the Asmalyk had always been part of the family. It was always hung on the wall of his parents' house. His parents told him that it belonged to his grandparents and even then it had always been hung on the wall. There has been various repairs to the Asmalyk. They can be easily seen in the parts where the colour of the wool is clean/white. Like all Rug Restorations, the colour and quality of the wool is different.
Please could you, if possible provide me with more information ... is the Asmalyk rare? I ask this because it is mostly Yomut Asmalyk's that I have seen for sale not Esari.
Thank you very much for your time and cooperation
@Jamil Ahmad,
Your photo's were not posted. I searched google and found a few that were rare, one was worth 5 grand.
You need to find an image hosting site, upload the photos, copy the URL and post it between these tags [img][/img]
Thank you! The photos I have taken are jpegs ... I can't for the life of me understand how to upload them!
@Jamil Ahmad,
You can create an account here
https://www.linkpicture.com register with your email address and upload photos.
Thank you very much indeed!
@Jamil Ahmad,
I sized the first picture you posted. It was a little large.
@Jamil Ahmad,
You may also want to tag your post, people search by tags.
For instance maybe two tags.
Esari Asmalyk, Antique Rugs
@Jamil Ahmad,
The best thing to do would be to take them to an antique rug dealer to validate them. They may or may not charge. But make sure it's a reputable dealer. What country are the rugs from?
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately here in Trieste, there isn't anybody that can put a price on the rug. Ideally it would be better to take it to a person who is very knowledgable about Turkmen rugs.
@jcboy,
Thank you very much for all your kind help!
@jcboy,
How did you manage to put the photo on the forum? Please can you tell me, I would like all the pictures to be shown. Thank you.
@Jamil Ahmad,
Well the first thing you should do is resize those photos, then upload them again and copy the URL and place them between these tags
If you don't resize them this is how they will look.
