Time is basically an illusion created by the mind to assist in our sense of temporal presence in the vast ocean of space. Without the neurons to create a virtual perception of the past and the future based on all our experiences, there is no actual existence of the past and the future. All that there is, is the present. Time is not real- it is a human construct to help us differentiate between now and our perception of the past. The concept of time is simply an illusion made up of memories. Everything that has ever been and ever will be is happening right now. In relation to the concept of time we can start with the past. Does it exist? No it does not; it's gone. Time can't be found in something that itself does not exist. How about the future? It does not exist yet. Maybe time can be found in the present moment which represents "now". Now does not have any duration. It is instantaneous. You can't say that now lasts a second and the next now starts. There is no time in the now. The perception of time passing from present moment to present moment is an artifact of our psychology, so that anything real or true is real or true eternally and timelessly. Time is a function of our relationship with the physical world and although we might rely on it in our everyday lives, it does not exist outside us. Clocks offer us merely a symbol of reality, not reality itself. Time changes and shifts depending on both our physical and psychological state and we influence these states, therefore we create time. We must be wary that our concepts of reality are not misunderstood for reality itself. What we experience as time's passage is a mental process happening in the space between memory and anticipation. Time is the form in which we beings whose brains are made up essentially of memory and foresight- interact with our world; it is the source of our identity. Without a record or memory and expectation of continuation, we would not experience time's passage or even know who we are. Time then is an emotional and psychological experience. It's loosely connected with external reality, but it is mostly something that happens now in our mind.
