'Hate crime' hoaxes are all too common on the left

Jussie Smollett has now been convicted.

It's time that attitudes toward so-called 'hate crimes' are changed.

From now on, any 'hate crimes' that are reported need to be viewed suspiciously by default. Only after thorough investigation of the background of the person claiming to be a victim should any other time or resources be allocated.

The left has a long track record of using victimhood status and wielding it as a weapon against their opponents. Cry bullies.

@BillRM,
You're correct, these hate crime hoaxes are nonsense! We need to quit taking them seriously, and we need to ignore people who claim to be victims of 'hate crimes'.

It's now known as "Pulling a Smollett".

That's true but sometimes the stories are believable upon first hearing. And, by the way, they don't always originate from the "left". You weren't around here last year but we had an example of that right on this message board. Someone who never posted here before showed up and pulled a Smollett, claiming she'd been the victim of a racially-motivated sexual assault in Minneapolis during the riots over the murder of George Floyd. People here initially rushed to her support and tried to give helpful advice. But it became clear that the real purpose of the post was to direct hatred against blacks and against the liberal establishment. Even were the story true — which is doubtful for a number of reasons – what kind of person would exploit this personal tragedy to further inflame racial tensions? And why would they choose this rather obscure forum to make a public appeal for pity? The amateurish attempt backfired though – since then, any 'hate crimes' that are reported here in an attempt to inflame the prejudices of the members tend to be viewed suspiciously by default. After all, as you so wisely pointed out above, only after thorough investigation of the background of the person claiming to be a victim should any sympathy and support be allocated.

In our country, both the preconditions for punishability, the so-called facts of the case (Latin "nullum crimen sine lege": no crime without the law), and the consequences of punishability (Latin "nulla poena sine lege": no punishment without the law) must be determined in order to start an investigation and report the violation of the law.

What principle of criminal law are you referring to, that the victim must be investigated first?
