Why are Japanese commercial products so expensive?

Hi, can anyone answer me with regards to this question? Japanese commercial products are so expensive and their currency value is low - I don't know much about business/economy, so please enlighten me Smile

I imagine their products are considered desirable enough to compete for.

Probably.... but I mean the price of everyday items... including food, DVDs are so expensive. :s I had a friend tell me about bubble economy and so forth. I would like opinions here, though Smile
