There was a comedy series starring David Jason called A bit of a Do about a group of people from Oop North.

Every episode was some function or other, marriage, christening, award ceremony, works function, all sorts.

I can't remember much except it was really good. There was one old couple who would take it in turns to drive so one was always very drunk and the other stone cold sober.
