@SoonJi96,
If I had to answer this question, I would say the foundation of Western Literature is
Colonialism.
The Epic of Gilgamesh is about a conqueror. In Western Literature there are civilized people (i.e. White people) facing barbarians (i.e. people of color). From Hannurbari, to Homer, to Shakespeare there is conquest and the battle for civilization.
In later years, the exploration of the "barbarian" (i.e. indigenous) has become a theme and referring to them as "barbarians is no longer acceptable... although they are the same people.
However, there is an odd insistence in nearly all modern Western Literature that indigenous tribes are more "civilized" as they take on more of Western culture. Many indigenous cultures practices polygamy and child marriage, and many people were happy in these indigenous. I bet you have never read a positive account of these cultures from their point of view.
Colonialism remains deeply embedded in Western Literature.
