How can I express a future action with "if"? e.g. I planning to buy a sofa in future and there are 2 options - either a comer sofa or a single piece. should I say; "the length is 230cm, if a straight sofa is chosen" or
"the length is 230 if a straight sofa was chosen" or
"the length is 230 if a straight sofa would be chosen" or

@asa77,
You can use the subjunctive mood: "the length is 230 cm if a straight sofa were chosen" – but it would be just as easy to say, "the length is 230cm, if I choose the straight sofa."

@asa77,
It looks like the conditional (where you put the if) is the length so you would say something like:

"If I have 230cm of room, I will buy a straight sofa otherwise I will buy a corner sofa."

Personally I would say 2.3m instead of using cm but that is my preference.
