What's the deal with "soulful" vocals

I often hear that autotune kills "soul".
I kinda don't understand the logic here with all this "uniquness" of the voice and autotune.
1) autotune doesn't change voice, it changes pitch
2) singer, surprise, sings which means tries to align the pitch of their voice with the melody as close as possible
So autotune helps a singer to do better what they're supposed to do by perfecting pitch. Why do you think that faulty non-perfect performance is better than corrected and sounding absolutely perfect as intended?

For me It's like saying "I like detuned musical instrument because it sounds unique" — it sure does only I can't stand the sound and would prefer a normal perfectly tuned instrument like most people.

What is the difference between bad and soulful singing?
