A question about Light.

I am certain this is something that many of you will think is silly.
I think about things often, and I was thinking about light and how it sometimes acts like a particle and sometimes a wave.

Then I started thinking about how energy and mass are the same thing.

Does light perform more like a wave when traveling through a sufficiently dense medium, and more like a particle in no medium.

What got me thinking about his is snow. In very cold air snow is solid state, in warm air a liquid state, hot enough it would be a gaseous state.

Could light have multiple states of matter?
What if lights confusing existence of wave and particle (particle wave) actually just light in different states like everything else?

Dont laugh, I am interested and learning..
