Why did Urban II’s call for an armed pilgrimage to the Holy Land prove so popular throughout western Christendom? Discuss the motives Europeans had for enlisting and supporting this dangerous and ambitious endeavor?

The OP is referring to Pope Urban II. So? The beginning of the Christian Crusades was happening in that region.

Are you planning on writing this person's homework assignment? #askingforastranger

At that time, a sin that would send one's soul to hell could be forgiven and ensure one didn’t go to hell by going on a crusade. And if you died on the crusade you went directly to heaven. Now, it has been a long time since I read this, so don’t take it as testable information.
