Brand new to water softening systems....

Hello,
My wife and I moved into a home that uses lake water as it's source. The home had a Model 6700 water softener but was removed from piping to accommodate a UV water purifier to make the water drinkable. I would like to reinstall this system to get soft water since our water has hardness rated at 130 mg/I per million or 7.5 grains.....and the average PH is @ 8.0.....

I don't anticipate having difficulties reinstalling this system but I was wondering what I should do for the first few days I get it running....I have never owned a water softener before and I'm not sure if I need to replace the resin beads in the tank or anything like that.....Basically the system is @ 15 years old but has been offline @ 5 years.....Any help or information would be most appreciated as we move into this new phase of "country living".
