There is a new type of satellite by Scottish company Skyrorathat allows scientists to track rare species of animals from space. That is a pretty good invention for scientists to prevent rare species of animals from becoming extinct.

@bearnard45,
I am confused here..

Are the rare animal species loacated outside of Earth atmosphere or are the animals being monitored via equipment located in the air surrounding Earth?

...or are these Drambuie indulging people imbibing a wee bit too much and creating wild new ideas?

A link would be appreciated. Thanks.

@bearnard45,
I assume these rare spcies must all be outfitted with something like a transponder keyed to a specific frequency?

@Sturgis,
I assume you could have guessed that we are talking about animals on Earth, which are being controlled by special satellites from space.

@farmerman,
Yeah, you are right. The trackers are glued onto the shells and are able to receive satellite radio signal every time the reptiles are resurfacing for air.
We haven`t any better option yet. But still, it`s a good method of preserving rare species of animals.

@farmerman,
By tracking them, scientists know their whereabouts, and it gives scientists an opportunity to protect them somehow.
How do they measure the population increases? I guess that scientists set animals to be tracked by satellites each year to the persons which were not tracked

@bearnard45,
I was thinking that perhaps theyve developed a model that calculates from the number of tracked females that return to their hatchery grounds then project some number of hatchlings followed by a "Lincoln Index" from space
