Why did this guy do this?

The office manager was ribbing me. One of the fellow staff members (female) was laughing every time he was doing this.
It annoyed me a bit as I do not want to be seen as a idiot in front of the work colleagues.
We were talking about Bob Marley and I said I have been to Bob Marley`s house in Jamaica he replied Bob Marley has passed on (he said it in a sarcastic tone) The colleague laughed I replied his house is a museum.
Am I reading too much into it?
