looking to change out a regular switch to a timer switch. When I pulled out the basic light switch there was a black and white wire attached to the light switch. The new timer switch has a red, black and white switch and ground. Can i use this switch, if so how do I install it. Thanks

@Millsie88,
This video will show you how: https://youtu.be/JcvfuLcwdsw

There should be a black and a white coming into the switch and a black and white leaving it. The incoming black goes to the red, the outgoing black goes to the black. Watch the video for details.

@Millsie88,
You don't have a set coming in and a set going out?? That is really poor wiring. My guess is that the person who wired it just ran the hot wire through the switch. Unfortunately for you, you need access to the return line. At this point, you might need an electrician to set this up.
