2.8 years ago i had unprotected sex with a guy who's hiv+ but not on medication (i did not take prep) . A few weeks after that i had sore throat Headache Runny nose Swollen lymph node Back and a rash.
I did the 4th Generation HIV Ag/Ab duo test
28th day: inconclusive/indeterminate
at one year negative
at 2.8 years negative
I doubt my two negative results and tend to believe the inconclusive one because of my ongoing symptoms for the past 2 years: Persistent Lymph nodes Oral thrush Chronic Sinusitis Joints pain and Lipoatrophy.
I know that hiv is not diagnosed by symptoms but i did blood test which showed
nothing is abnormal which can explain that the symptoms im having can possibly be due to the hiv(spear me the you have anxiety comments) . My question is why does the 4th generation ag/ab duo test won't detect the infection after 2.8 years?(did not had another exposure) do i need a PCR/Rna test?

@Sfgyll,
The word you're looking for is spare. And I won't.

I am not a doctor, and I bet dollars to doughnuts that you aren't, either. Everything you've written screams anxiety and nothing else.

Will you continue to take tests until they come up inconclusive again, just to justify your fear?

Not trusting the results unless they say what you want them to is the antithesis of science and medicine.

Go to your doctor, and I mean your primary care physician and not some clinic. Talk to him or her about your symptoms and your concerns. And ask about what happens to people who really do have untreated HIV for over 2 1/2 years.

See, I lived through that time, and I remember it well.

In the 1980s, before there were any HIV medications, people who had untreated HIV for over 2 1/2 years had been dead for 1 of those years.
