so here is how I understand it. Eighteen states brought suit claiming that since there is no mandate, the whole ACA law is unconstitutional. This suit has worked its way up the ladder with the last court deciding in favor of the states. It has now been pushed to the Supreme Court for a final decision. If the vote is 4-4, then the lower riling will stand and we kiss ACA goodbye. A 4-4 vote would assume Roberts votes with the 3 remaining Democrats.
A 4-4 ruling would let the lower court ruling stand in the Fifth(?) Circuit Court of Appeals.
I don't think it would extend the ruling to cover the rest of the United States.

yes, you may be correct...it may only die in the 18 states that brought suit
