How to disable avatar?

when you created an account, your avatar was automatically assigned to you, through https://en.gravatar.com/

you cannot disable it...

If they don't want to have an avatar, possibly they could upload an image of a plain white/gray/black square to their Gravatar account.

They would still have an avatar technically, but it would just be a blank square.


If they don't want to see any avatars, they can go to the "Show Avatars:" entry on their preferences page and turn them off.

Exactly. You have to have one of some sort or other. Doesn't mean you can't change it to something you like better.
