Easiest way to look at this is by changing the pronoun to he or she, him or her.

I am taller than her. I am taller than him.

Not: I am taller than he. I am taller than she.

Also correct: I am taller than he is. I am taller than she is.

He/she/I are subject or subjective case. Him/her/me are all object or objective case.

They most assuredly do.

It is improper grammar...but they are allowed to do it.

Saying "She is taller than me" is also improper grammar...but you are allowed to use it if you don't mind looking uneducated.

"I am taller than he" and "I am taller than she" are both grammatically correct. "I am taller than her" or "I am taller than him" are grammatically incorrect...no matter how many people use them.

I will stick with, "I am shorter than he."

Me tired of this. Youm can do what youm want...no matter how it slaughter the English language.

@Frank Apisa,
It’s not like anyone could accuse you of being stubborn.

It’s not stubborn to relate how people talk. Over here it is natural to say taller than me. However, it’s not natural for any of us to say any of the other twisted phrases you’ve bandied about.

I can’t speak for you fellows though.

@Frank Apisa,
Frank,

How much evidence will it take to get you to admit you are wrong.

We have provided you with links to dictionary entries that say you are wrong. We have given you experts saying you are wrong. We have explained the grammatical principle and given explanations from at least two continents. We have provided historical examples that say you are wrong.

You are ignoring countless grammatical experts and 350 years of historical usage.

Stubborn doesn't begin to explain it.

@maxdancona,
Why does anyone have to admit to being wrong?

It’s always either or with you, an absolutism you claim to deplore in others.

@izzythepush,
Geez Izzy. Even when you agree with me you want to pick a fight 😉

It is rare that you and I disagree on the facts on any thread. What's between us is personal.

@maxdancona,
I’ve not asked Frank to admit he’s wrong. I’ve not gone on about sides or winning and losing

It’s your style, way too confrontational.

@izzythepush,
You are a better person than me, Izzy.

The way people always are treated with respect by you whether you agree with them or not is an example for us all... something to boldly strive for.

Or you could try being honest.

@maxdancona,
Don’t flatter yourself.

I ignored your joke because it wasn’t funny.

That’s why I said you could try being honest.

@izzythepush,
I don't think you know what the word "ignore" means, Izzy.

There are dictionaries online if you want to look it up. (Hint: if you are responding to something, or commenting on something... then you aren't ignoring it.)
